Savannah Indivisible to Host Data Center Town Hall on April 8
Experts will address what communities can do to slow down massive buildouts
SAVANNAH, GA – March 3, 2026 – Savannah Indivisible, a grassroots organization dedicated to protecting constitutional rights and democratic principles in Georgia’s 1st Congressional District, will host a Data Center Town Hall on April 8, 2026 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Otis S. Johnson, Ph.D. Cultural Arts Center in Savannah.
Members of the Georgia Public Service Commission, data center experts, and elected officials will gather to speak with the community and answer questions. This town hall is an opportunity for residents to raise concerns about the ethical, economic, and environmental fallout of these sprawling complexes.
The panel includes Peter Hubbard, current PSC official; Craig Cupid, Shelia Edwards, and Angelia Pressley, all PSC candidates for the seat currently held by Tricia Pridemore; Aaron “Adot” Whitely, Chatham County Commissioner; Bill Wright, data center activist; and Chassidy Malloy, from Georgia Conservation Voters.
Georgia is ranked fifth in the nation for data center growth with 194 already built and another 114 planned or under construction. Across the state, lawmakers are calling for data center moratoriums to address energy and cost concerns, as well as the impacts on drinking water and local environment.
“Data center growth is controversial for very good reasons,” said Co-Chair of Savannah Indivisible, Suzanne Potts. “It’s not a left or right issue, it’s a community issue. Everyone deserves to understand the impact of data centers, especially here in Georgia where we already face high utility bills and our water supplies are at risk due to rapid industrial and residential growth related to the Hyundai Megasite.”
In the 2026 legislative season, Georgia state senators rejected a proposal that would have explicitly prevented Georgia Power from passing on data centers’ infrastructure costs to residential customers, instead advancing a bill with fewer consumer protections.
Those interested in attending can learn more about the town hall or RSVP to attend.
Savannah Indivisible’s Civic Engagement Series
As announced earlier this year, Savannah Indivisible’s 2026 mission includes a civic engagement strategy for hosting candidate forums and town halls. The Data Center Town Hall is the second in the series.
The first in the series will be the Congressional District One Democratic Candidate Forum on March 24, 2026 at the Otis S. Johnson, Ph.D. Cultural Arts Center in Savannah from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
